Horse crazy as a kid, Jim Stuckenberg's doodles and drawings took on more depth when he was given a Quarter Horse. Jim competed in calf roping and rode bareback and saddle broncs along with bulls for the rodeo team while attending Fresno State. These activities gave him a special feel for the rhythm and fluidity of equine anatomy in movement that he is able to translate into his artwork. One can almost imagine the pounding of the surf and the horse's hooves. That is what Jim did: he imagined the sound since he had never heard a hoof fall or a wave break; Jim was born deaf. This makes his accomplishments all the more interesting. He credits the Lord for all he has been given and all he has done.Jim worked hard with the horses and earned his license to train race horses when not in the studio. |

Then Jim started the challenge of working in bronze. Western artist Mel Lawson shared his mold making process with him and a new dimension came into Jim's artistic vision. The list of Jim's international
collectors is quite a "read" in itself. The King Ranch,
Buster Welch and Wayne Lukas own his work. One of Charlie
Russell's relatives has sought out and purchased several of
his pieces. This is satisfying since Charlie's work was
influential in Jim's development. The White House, the
Reagan Library, museums, banks and savvy horsemen own Jim's
work. Currently, Jim's artwork is featured exclusively at
California Classics in Templeton, CA. |
