Diversity is the hallmark of artist Teri Rose. Whether engaged in sport, career or family endeavors, Teri's world is rich with color, dimension and continual growth.

One is beckoned to step into Teri's world as her realistic animals appear ready to take an audible breath. In portraiture, she is compelled to capture the elemental uniqueness of each individual via the dance of realistic and impressionistic interactions in her work. Through pencil on ragboard and oils on canvas, Teri encompasses a myriad of contemporary as well as historical subjects. In her impressionistic pieces, Teri's poetic side comes into play with expressive, dramatic integration of color.

Teri uses an age-old technique of meticulous layering of oil pigment on pigment. This time-consuming method called glazing ultimately saturates the canvas, achieving a vibrant image of great depth.

Athletic as well as artistic, Teri was a member of the legendary Levi Ride and Tie 1994 World Champion Women's Team. She was able to complete this grueling contest through a bond between horse and rider, each dependent upon the other through miles of challenging terrain. On her first attempt Teri took "Top 20" honors in the prestigious Tevis Cup 100-Mile Race. However, these achievements were soon to be overshadowed by her impending motherhood.

Teri's choice to become a mother provides different kinds of challenges: a new awareness of the circle of life and the value of time. She now "changes hats" on a moment's notice finding great peace in sitting at the canvas sharing the gifts God has bestowed upon her. In her studio located in the oak-studded hills of the Central California Coast, her daughter Amaya, at her side, Teri continues to create. Drawing on her travels through India, Europe and much of the USA, as well as her love for her own animals, Teri injects a unique perspective into her increasingly recognizable art.

The first American-born child of a Hungarian immigrant family, Teri earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cal Poly University at Pomona. In her early years as a struggling artist without the price of a

ticket, and driven by her love of art, Teri would sneak into shows with a camera to experience and capture the beauty she so desperately needed in her life. Recently, her work as been selected to best represent one of those very shows, the prestigious 2002 Draft Horse Classic in Grass Valley, CA.

Tending the Herd

The momentum in Teri's career is building. December 2001 found Teri's Americana print, "Liberty," the high selling piece at the Heritage Foundation Benefit Auction. It is to be permanently housed at the Mid-State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles.

When not riding or spending time with her family, Teri keeps busy with private commissions. Her work has been featured in The Arabian Horse World, Horse Illustrated, The Country News, Telegram Tribune, Draft Horse Journal and has been selected for the coveted covers of the SLO County Equestrian Guide and Inside International. Although she has been invited to participate in innumerable juried shows, Teri is currently limiting her participation to the SLO County Cattlemen's Western Art Show and Sale and the Draft Horse Classic at Grass Valley.
