A starter or "fix it" tool, the western snaffle has become universally accepted in the equestrian world as an educational and communication aid. Traditionalists may still prefer to start a colt in a hackamore, but there are times when even they may elect to use a good snaffle to reach their goals. Fundamentals can be taught, maximized or repaired using these bits for increased performance at any age.

California Classics wanted to offer you a selection of so called "sweet iron" bits made in weights, styles and sizes to best fit the needs of your specific horse. These new snaffles, made by the hands of a man who has spent his life becoming a master metal smith, are exclusive to CC.

A perfectionist, Mark crafts these bits one by one by hand out of mild steel (commonly called "sweet iron") with copper inlaid in the mouth pieces. The galvanic reaction of the mild steel, copper and saliva encourage the soft, wet mouth horsemen covet. They are evenly balanced and do not pinch. The bits feature very smooth swivel action, the highly desirable quick release of pressure along with a pleasing satin finish.

The standard is 5.5 and 6 inch widths on these snaffles. There will be more options added to the line over time. Each snaffle is made to meet the minimum requirements for nearly all association competitions. Our friend, Bill Enk "the judge's judge," is our neighbor. He gave a smiling thumbs up upon inspection.

You can be certain that these snaffles will serve you well for years. They are Made in America with US materials and old fashioned attention to detail. Make certain to use these snaffles with one of our CC snaffle hobbles.

The Standard Ring Snaffle is 2 7/8 inches outside diameter and is made of 1/4 inch diameter stock. This is the lightest of the CC snaffles.

The Heavy Ring Snaffle is 3 1/4 inches outside diameter of ring made of 3/8 inch diameter stock. Designed to drop away quickly to give your horse immediate reward response, the heavy snaffle has become a valuable aid to the rider.
