Why is a mane mecate made 22'? Measuring by outstretched arms is known as marking by "brazadas" ("brasadas"). Upon investigation, the average old vaquero might have stood 5'4"-5"6" m/l so his arms potentially measured 5'6" m/l. Four brazadas would then be about 22' (a standard mecate). Shorter, a get down rope measures three brazadas or 16' with a tassel. A mystery of the Pacific Slope may be solved. |
